Thousands gather to observe World AIDS Day 2004

More than 1000 persons marched through the streets of Kingston in a strong show of support for the World AIDS Day 2004 theme: Women, Girls, HIV and AIDS: Confronting the Crisis. They marched from three different locations in the capital city to gather at Emancipation Park where a huge crowd was already participating in the National World AIDS Day exhibition.

The days' activities ended with a concert involving a wide range of well-known local personalities from the worlds of business, religion, politics, women's rights and entertainment. The concert, which was attended by an estimated 3000 persons, was filled with positive messages of empowerment underscoring the need for women to receive HIV/AIDS prevention education as well as a call to support women and girls infected and affected by the disease.

These events were indicative of the many activities and the strong participation by members of the pubic to World AIDS Day events across the island.
